Dorus Mor 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml
Only 2,400 bottles of this limited edition small-batch single malt, which was aged for ten years, were released in the United States. Bowmore Dorus Mor 10 Year Old Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky Release No. 1 pays tribute to Bowmore Distillery's location and the loch's treacherous waters (Dorus Mor means "rough, wild water"in ancient Gaelic). Dorus Mor was developed by Rachel Barrie, the first female master blender in the world of Scotch whisky (Barrie had previously helped Ardbeg create some of their most popular offerings). "An enigmatic taste adventure,"Barrie says of the whisky, Bowmore Dorus Mor is made from barley sourced from Scotland and Islay. Once the barley has been harvested, it is malted at Bowmore's own malthouse (only a handful of distilleries in Scotland continue to malt their own barley) before being dried over a peat flame. Unlike some other distilleries on Islay, however, the drying process is much shorter at Bowmore — only 15 hours — and utilizes only half as much peat, resulting in a more robust yet still mild, smoky flavor. Once the barley has been malted and peated, it is fermented and then twice distilled through Bowmore's copper pot stills. Loch Indaal is not a lake, it is a large bay carved into the west coast of the island of Islay. Bowmore sits on the southern shore of that Bay, directly across from Bruichladdich in the north. The Distillery is in Bowmore the town, which is the capital of the island district.

About the brand
Bowmore Single Malt whisky was officially established in 1779 by local merchant John Simson, making it one of the first distilleries on Islay to ever receive license to legally produce whisky. As with many other Scottish distilleries, it’s likely that Simson had been distilling on the grounds for a number of years before that – probably since his arrival in 1766. The Bowmore distillery which lies on the South Eastern shore of Loch Indaal, is owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, which is part of the Japanese Suntory portfolio. As an Islay distillery, Bowmore’s whisky is peated and holds the unmistakable characteristics of an Islay Malt. However, its notes lean more towards smoke and sweeter sugars rather than of peat and seaweed. Despite its location on the banks of Loch Indaal in central Islay, Bowmore’s water comes from the river Laggan, where it flows after completing a 19-kilometer journey starting in limestone and sandstone hills on the east coast, and then picking up heather from the hills and peat in the Islay bogs. Such water produces a light and subtle whisky with a good balance of mineral and vegetal. After its opening in 1779, it wasn’t long before Simson passed the ownership of Bowmore to the Mutter family in 1837, who held onto ownership of the flourishing distillery until 1892. The Mutters were originally ‘scientific’ farmers whose focus was improving cultivation on the island. As a result they are reported to have improved the distillery, honing distilling practices and the flow of necessary elements to the site. The distillery was then bought from the Mutter family in 1925 by J.B. Sheriff & Co. and remained under their ownership until being purchased by Inverness-based William Grigor & Son, Ltd. in 1950. Although Morrison substantially rebuilt and renovated much of the distillery, he retained the original floor maltings and traditional whisky production methods which are still in use to this day. Winner of a whole host of awards, Bowmore has been named Distillery of the Year multiple times, and various expressions have also been recognized with Double Gold Awards at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Exquisite nectar heated ham with tropical notes on the button. Fruits and salt water as well. The sense of taste drew out some minty newness and some basil first. Menthol-lyptus bacon vanilla inconspicuous lemon and sugar coated ginger. It likewise has a medium mouth coat which is pleasant. Accompanies a peppermint and chocolate finish. Somewhat dry yet not terrible. I'd state a 4.25. The topic to this measure ought to be Mint Vehicle" by The Fix."

A phenomenal scotch especially since it's only a 10-year old. Whenever given the chance (and just 2400 containers were discharged) purchase two; one to drink and one to gather. Try not to stop for a second at the cost (approx. $85) you won't get another opportunity at this.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Malt, fruit, smoke, spice, vanilla, caramel, honey and dry cake. There’s a bit of that burnt hazelnut meets copper note that seems to be the Bowmore signature but it’s not overwhelming.
Taste
Malt, fruit, smoke, spice, vanilla, caramel, honey and dry cake. Some of that same burnt hazelnut meets copper note.
Finish
Long warm dissolve of peat, caramel and dry cake that fades to a floral note.
